Personally researched a master painter/artist from the 1800-1900s, Lovis Corinth, and created a self-portrait. I had a goal of practicing and examining their style, approach, and use of color in their works of art.

I chose "Othello" by Corinth because I have not seen many Blacks/African Americans depicted within paintings during the time. Despite sticking as close as possible to the original piece, I incorporated my own elements such as yellow ochre for highlights, burnt sienna for the skin tone, and ultramarine blue for the shadows and hair.

Here, I experimented with applying an object's analogous color like blue in the pear or orange in the pepper to add an enriched and vibrant texture. I also strived to create highlights and forms through color instead of black and white. For example, the metal man statue is constructed mostly out of yellow ochre, lemon yellow, and burnt sienna instead of white, grey, and black.

Here, I was tasked with finding any set of objects to depict so I specifically chose objects that represented my identity and a color scheme to match. There is a sword and sheath present that show my adventurous personality and fascination in the cultures that use them such as China and Japan. Next, I have an art box, something that holds my childhood and materials to create art within.

My watch represents my professionalism and style as I love to be studious while enhancing my appearance through accessories. Then I have a lion plushie and game console that show the fun, soothing part of my identity.

I mostly used green and purple because I was still new to painting professionally and I wanted to experiment ways of using others colors while straying away from white and black.
